The George Middle School SLCB program has existed here for 21 years. In this program, run by myself Ms. Bessette. It involves consistent management strategies and methods of accountability/ tracking of students’ daily progress. Students are afforded an opportunity to learn from their mistakes and take responsibility for them. Students are on a 4-tiered level system, with their inclusion in mainstream classes dependent on their level. For instance, a student on level 4 will fully attend all mainstream classes. A student on level 1 will receive one on one counseling and a minimum amount of privileges until the student makes things right.
The SLC-B program exudes a family ethos, and we strive to assist students and encourage them to make independent, sound, and appropriate choices throughout the day. The SLC-B classroom is students “home”, a safe secure warm and welcoming place where students are also held accountable.
