Adequate Yearly Progress
AYP is something the government came up with to judge schools based on subcategories. Unfortunately, the state has to judge us on students meeting certain scores on state tests, not on whether or not students are actually growing and learning. Students with Disabilities (special education) have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and get instruction at their appropriate level. But the government says we must test those students at grade level, not at their level. That can make it impossible for students to seem like they are succeeding. George MS has always been rated at least Satisfactory on the Oregon School Report Card and still is.
