ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING 2013

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your student is currently enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) course at Franklin High School.  AP courses are designed to be rigorous and challenging, as they are college-level courses that have specific College Board-determined curriculums.  Below is important AP Test Registration information.

This year, from May 6th -17th, exams in AP subject areas are administered at high schools across the USA and throughout the world.  For Portland Public Schools most exams are given at Marshall High School, with a few exams held at other schools (see the registration form for the exact exam dates and locations).  A passing grade on an AP test may allow a student to earn college credit in that subject area; however, it’s best to check with specific colleges to learn about their regulations and criteria.

If your student wishes to take an AP test, please fill out the registration form that they received from their AP instructor or that can be found on the Franklin High School website www.pps.k12.or.us/schools/franklin.  Please return the registration form no later than February 15, 2013.   Please make checks payable to Portland Public Schools.

In order to take an AP exam and qualify for college credit, students MUST pre-register, and pay a fee of $90 per exam.  Fees are $15 for students on the Free & Reduced Lunch Program.   Limited Financial assistance is available, for more information access the form on the FHS website or contact Jill Register in the main office.

To help your student prepare for the exam, you can view the list of AP Study Sites on the FHS website or through their AP instructor.

If you have any questions about the AP program or testing, please refer to the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com.  For questions specific to the testing, please call our VP Secretary Jill Register at 503-916-5140, EXT 73547.

Thank you,

Marshall Haskins
