Franklin HS senior Damian Woods signed a full ride letter of intent to play football at Sioux Falls University if South Dakota.  The 6'1" 185-pound senoir will play wide receiver for the Cougars for the next four years.  A Big QUAKER congratulations to Damian.  View a picture of Damian signed the letter of intent here.

Franklin students' Mary Lao and Sierra Brambila, along wtih students from other Portland high schools, participated in this year's "Free the Bowl" contest.  "Free the Bowl" is an annual national anti-beer advertising contest that challenges youth to create short videos exposing the harm of exploitative alcohol advertsing during the Super Bowl.  Their video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVmn9apqhcg&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode=1. 

 

 

Congratulations to the FHS swimmers who will represent FHS at the 2012 State Swim meet on Feb. 17th and 18th.  200 Yard Medley Relay: Talullah, Margret, Clair, Sadie, katherine and Madison.  200 Yard IM and 500 Freestyle Claire.  100 Yard Freestyle Sadie.

 

 Mr. Buckmaster offers congratulations to the FHS Robotics Team!   Congratulations go out to the FHS Robotics teams for their participation in Oregon FTC Qualifying Tournament at Oregon State University this Saturday 2/11/12.  One of our teams made it to 4th place in the semi-final rounds out of 26 schools attending! (We are still waiting for the final scoring results to find out who will advance to the state finals.)Thanks go out to everyone in the Engineering Robotics class as it was a group effort that resulted in the building of the robots that went to the competition.  Special thanks go out to the following students who were able to attend: Hadrian, Bin, Chase, Fletcher, Mikael, Daniel, and Karen. Thanks also go to Mr. Jerome Mannenbach and to the students parents for all their help.

Congratulations to the 703 Franklin students who had a 3.0 gpa (grade point average) or above on their first quarter grade reports.  These students represent 48% of the student body! (55% of Freshmen, 40% of Sophomores, 42% of Juniors and 55% of Seniors.)  PTA will recognize their achievement with a dessert event on Friday, December 9th.  Way to Go Quakers!

 

 


 

 

 

 

  

 

Thank you to all who participated in the recent Red Cross blood drive.  Oregon Red Cross reports that 189 lives were impacted by the generous donation of live-saving blood by our students!

Mikaeli Rhodman and Matt Gauss for being accepted to the Oregon Music Educators Association ALL-STATE CHOIR!  All-State takes place at the University of Oregon in Eugene, January 13-15, 2012.
 
Mitchell Mundorff for his selection as an American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR) Russian Scholar Laureate for 2011!
 
Mitchell Mundorff and Daniel Scott, both named National Merit Scholarship Program Semi-finalists. Josh Edel and Fletcher Hazlehurst, both named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.  "These young men have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC.

Congratulations to 2011 OABSE Scholarship recipient, Perpetua Ejike!  Perpetua received the honor at the Oregon Alliance of Black Student Educators' 29th Annual Student Recognition Banquest on May 26, 2011.  More information about OABSE may be found here.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW ASB OFFICERS ELECTED FOR THE 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR!  Activities Director Mark Tucker announced the new officers for the upcoming school year.  RISA LUTHER and DAMIAN WOODS were elected President and Vice President, respectively.  Serving with them will be ZOE CHRISMAN-MILLER (Secretary), EDEN HASKINS-DAHL (Spirit Commissioner), TOMMY BURKE (Activities Editor), CAITLYN MCLAIN (Publicity Chair), and, LADARA BRYDSON, JASMINE NAVARRO-REYES AND SYDNEY FULLER from the BizTech campus (Marshall) will serve in the temporary positions of ASB Representatives. THE RESULTS OF CLASS ELECTIONS ARE IN!  NEXT YEAR'S:  Sophomore Class (2014): Pres.
