JT Homberg

Algebra for High School Credit

Quadratic equations, y=mx+b, variables, and the distributive property, any of these sound familiar? These are just some of the elements of Algebra that several of our eighth grade students will be learning this year. These eighth graders have earned the chance to take Algebra this year for high school credit.

Algebra is the base for higher level mathematics and this class will provide these students with a mathematical foundation that will help them succeed in high school and beyond. In this class the students will be learning problem- solving strategies, many algebraic concepts, and how to use technology to help aid them in solving mathematical problems.

Students will not only be learning Algebra in this class but also how to work as a team. During this class, students will be working in teams on various real life mathematical problems. They will be given team roles to follow such as task manger, recorder/reporter and resource manager to help them work more effectively in a team. During this year, the students will get the chance to take on all the different roles and learn how to be a valuable team member.

My name is JT Homberg and I am very excited about teaching Algebra this year and working with the students of Faubion, as well as Vernon and Woodlawn.
