Erin Arias
Mrs. Arias's Second Grade Class
Room 5-Faubion PreK-8 School
It is now half-way through the school year and we have many interesting and exciting plans for the rest of the year in second grade.
Presently, we are completing the Language Arts/Social Studies/Science unit called “Our Changing World”. In this unit, we are focusing on the concept question “How do things change? How do they stay the same?”
The big ideas of this theme:
• Things change every day (people learn new things, children grow bigger, plants die or seeds grow, the cycles of life)
• Sometimes change is hard (moving, changing schools, not being able to do things you used to do)
• Almost everything changes (living things, nonliving things, feelings, hopes, dreams)
Students are being exposed to a variety of new skills and they are also reviewing skills that were previously taught in phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, grammar, speaking, and listening in this unit.
In addition, the students just hosted an “Invention Fair” on February 2nd, which was the culmination of our “Creative Ideas” unit. Students independently researched an invention and presented 5-8 facts about the invention, including the date it was invented and the reason for its inception. Students presented their findings at the fair.
Students continue to make great strides and incredible things are happening in our classrooms. I look forward to continuing this dynamic journey with these amazing 2nd graders.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Arias
