Verbal Assertiveness

We have asked the girls to teach their family member how to use this 3 step model.  Ask them how they practice being assertive in their daily lives.

The 3 Step Model…

  1. Name the behavior
  2. Criticize it
  3. Tell the person what you want them to do

Here is an example you could use with a friend or stranger who is not respecting your personal space:

  1. You’re in my space.
  2. I don’t like it.
  3. Please move back.

Try using the three step model on a regular basis with friends, family members and even strangers.

Ask family members for feedback after you used the 3 step model.  How did they respond to your verbal assertiveness?

Remember you always have the right to speak up for yourself!
