February News
Welcome to the second half of the 2011-2012 school year! We are keeping a busy schedule. We are just finishing our unit on geometry, focusing on two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Students are also wrapping up their science learning for the year, as we prepare to take the state science achievement tests. Up next, students will be taking a unit called F.L.A.S.H. (Family Life and Sexual Health.) The unit will be taught by nursing students from Concordia University. This month, we will begin a great program called Architects in Schools. A local, licensed architect will come into the classroom for 12 hours and help lead students in lessons about architecture and how it influences Portland’s culture. The lessons will incorporate math, science, social studies, and writing. Also this month, we are welcoming a visitor who is preparing us for a field trip to one of Portland’s wastewater treatment facilities. She is teaching us about pollution and what the City does to clean our wastewater before it re-enters the ecosystem.
