Summary of Our School Improvement Plan
The school improvement plan begins with a detailed look at 2010-2011 East-West Sylvan data, including Oaks scores, Attendance, behavior and Milestones Data. The District Milestones for middle school are that all students will be ready for high school by the end of eighth grade, as measured by: 1) Percent of 8th graders taking and passing Algebra; 2) Meeting or Exceeding on the 7th grade writing assessment; and 3) Attendance data for seventh grade.
94% or more of our students meet and exceed in the reading, math and science Oaks assessment. 87% meet or exceed on the 7th grade writing assessment. We also looked at data from a growth perspective. We want all of our students to show growth. Our data shows that our students are showing growth at every grade and every content area, although the growth, as measured by the Oaks test is smaller in eighth grade for both math and reading. Please see the SIP plan for more details on the data.
We have two goals this year. One is that we want all student to show at least one year of growth, as measured by the OAKS test. The second is that we want students who are behind (not meeting or just meeting) to show 1.5 - 2 years growth, as measured by the OAKS test. In order to reach thesse goals, we are focusing our professional develoment on differentiation, including SIOP and the Equity work, so that we can meet the needs of all of our student.
