Travel Assignment

French 1 and French 2, Spanish 1

In my teaching experience, students who leave for vacation have a hard time catching up. Usually you can expect to see a down-turn in grades after an extended absence.

It will be challenging to earn an ‘A’ if you and your family choose to leave for weeks. Being gone will affect your ability to participate in class and your grades in general. We aren’t going to tell you that you can’t go, but here are the effects being out on vacation…”
  1. Teachers don’t have time to re-instruct students who are gone on vacation.
  2. Research has been done that strong grades tend to correlate with regular class attendance.
  3. The grade issue will be a natural consequence, not a negative consequence.
*** After you return, you will have to make up any written homework, and tests assigned during your absence. Because of the oral nature of a language class, you can not make up, and can expect a zero for oral class work and daily participation grades. This includes oral presentations.

I cannot tell you in advance exactly what the work will be, or how far we will get in a lesson, but we do follow the curriculum of your text book. You can usually assume that we will continue working in the text. You can keep up with this by studying the lessons and writing out the exercises in the text and workbook. We usually complete lesson in 1 ½ to 2 weeks. Continue accordingly. You will not be able to make up listening and speaking activities done in class.
