French 1 + 2 Classroom Procedures
You will hear and speak FRANÇAIS in class as much as possible.
For most students, class time is the only time you will have the
opportunity to hear French. Therefore, I will make every effort
to speak in French. I expect you to do the same.
When you come into class every day:
- Take out your French book and workbook
- Sit in your assigned seat
- Check the board for your class, it’s always a good idea to copy the date and activities en français as a warm-up for the days work.
- Copy the homework – on your agenda
Some commands you will get to know are:
Sortez vos livres. Take out your books.
Ouvrez à la page…. Turn to page….
Sortez vos devoirs. Take out your homework.
Avec vos partenaires, faites l’exercice B à la page… With your partners, do exercise B on page…
HOMEWORK procedures:
Being well ORGANIZED is the key to success in so many aspects of life.
Please attend class with your materials ready and easy to find.
We will go over homework daily in class. You must have it done on time for full credit. You will not be able to keep up with the class if you do your homework late. You can receive half credit for homework one day late. You may have the number of days missed to make up homework after an excused absence.
Follow directions carefully. Please do the assignments as assigned. You will only receive credit for assignments done according to the directions and following the models given. When the assignment is written as P. 42, that means do the whole page, not just part of it.
We will go over homework in class. I will go around the room and stamp homework each day there is a written assignment. While I stamp, you will do oral exercises with your partner, or written work. Then, we will go over the homework on the overhead. You are responsible for checking your work and asking questions about anything you need clarified. Your grade will be based on completing the assignments at home (not in class or the hall). If I see you doing homework in class, expect extra homework to complete at home.
Late Homework Policy
½ credit if one day late,
Not Accepted more than one day late.
Grades are based on:
Participation You are expected to participate actively in class every day. You will be rewarded for taking risks with the language and going out of your way to communicate. Respectful, responsible behavior is an important form of positive participation.
Homework done completely and on time.
Tests and Quizzes Expect a 10-point test at the end of each lesson, You will have unit tests and semester finals on what was learned in class which will be worth 15-30 points. There will be both oral and written quizzes in-between. You will also get to do oral presentations, that are graded as 10-point tests.

Excused absences You have the number of days that you were absent to make up missed work. Your responsibility is to find out what you missed by talking to a classmate. If you are still confused, please email me or see me after class. If you miss more than two weeks for any reason other than illness or family trauma, verified by a note or email from your parents, you will need to find a tutor to help you catch up.

CLASS RULES
My expectation is that you will act respectfully towards me, your classmates, and yourselves and our environment in all you do. If you make a mistake, ask for forgiveness. If you borrow something, return it in good condition, what you mess up, clean up. Take responsibiltiy for your actions!
- Do not eat in class. It is messy, distracting and may cause harm to students with allergies. Eat at lunch, break or passing time.
- Do not chew gum. Don't pretend to chew gum, swallow gum or leave gum anywhere. It is sticky.
- Drink water if you are thirsty, bring a bottle of water to class. Leave any other liquid outside of class. It is sticky when it spills.
