Step 2 – Flash tools and objects (time allowed: 2 classes...complete this for a "D" grade)

Learn how to use some of the Flash tools to create objects. Learn how objects interact with one another. We will explore as a class the following concepts:

• Worksheet #1 - Selection, Line, & Oval Tools
• Worksheet #2 - Oval, Rectangle, & Polygon Tools
• Worksheet #3 - Pencil & Brush Tools
• Worksheet #4 - Free Transform & Eraser Tools/Grouping Objects

Step 3 – “Frame-by-frame” animation (time allowed: 2 classes)

To create a frame-by-frame animation, you define each frame on a timeline as a keyframe and then create a different image for each frame. This involves naming, locking, and working with different layers, and much more.  Watch this instructional video to create a sunrise/sunset scene!

Experiment with the concepts you have been learning about by creating frame-by-frame animations. Practice working with selecting, copying, moving, and deleting frames.  Use the "Working With Frames & Useful Information" helpsheet to solve 3 flash challenges that will be sent to your LanSchool desktop folder.

Step 4 – Motion & Shape Tweening (time allowed: 2 classes...complete this for a "C" grade)

Demonstrate your knowledge of tweening by creating six different shapes and separating them on to different layers. Apply a tween element to each of the different shapes and name each layer after the tween element used.

In motion tweening, you define properties such as position, size, and rotation for an object at one point in time, and then you change those properties at another point in time.

In shape tweening, you draw a shape at one point in time, and then you change that shape or draw another shape at another point in time. Flash figures out all the frames in between for you.

Use the Flash Tweening Worksheet to practice creating shape tweening that demonstrates the following element:

• Morphing

Demonstrate your knowledge of tweening by creating six different shapes and separating them on to different layers. Apply a tween element to each of the different shapes and name each layer after the tween element used.

Step 5 – Storyboard (time allowed: 1 class...homework if not completed in class...complete this for a "B" grade)

Create a storyboard for your final project. Start by thinking of a place and objects that could be animated in your scene. Use Worksheet #7 (Storyboard) to sketch out a detailed description of what your scene is going to look like, how objects will be separated onto different layers, etc. Click here to see an example.

Step 6 – Create objects for your scene ( time allowed: 2-3 classes)

Once your storyboard has been approved begin creating your scene! Start by drawing your scenery and the objects you will need. Be sure to separate objects onto different layers. For example, draw your sky, ground, and sun on three separate layers. Are you going to have two birds fly across your sky? Draw the birds on separate layers...bird1 and bird2. Do you want to have clouds move together as a group or at different speeds? Use layers!!!

Don't draw on the wrong layer...lock all layers except for the one you are working on so that you don't accidentally draw on the wrong one. Also, identify your layers by naming them.

Step 7 – Animate your scene (time allowed: 2-3 classes)

Once your objects and layers have been set up start bringing your scene to life using!

Be sure to use frame-by-frame animation and to also add motion and shape tweening elements to your project. Use Worksheet #7 (Storyboard), Worksheet #8 (Adding Sound), Helpsheet, and the Evaluation handouts.

Optional: import and insert sound in your project. Use Worksheet #8 (Adding Sound).

Step 8 – Finish and publish your project (time allowed: 1 class...complete this for an "A" grade)

When you are finished save and publish your work to your assigned flash folder. Use Worksheet #10 (Publishing Your Work) and the Evaluation handout. Be sure that you have met all the requirements for an "A" grade before publishing your work!

Odosketch (create a drawing)

• Go to odosketch
• Use the tools at the bottom of the screen to draw and erase
  • Note - Drawing slowly results in a thin line; drawing more quickly results in a thicker line
• Click the Reload button at the bottom to see a replay of your drawing
• Take a screenshot of your creation or click the "Save" button
  • Note - You will need to set up a free account to save your drawings

Odosketch (viewing a SlideShow)
It is fun to look at art created by others, and Odosketch provides a gallery of featured sketches that can be viewed individually or as a slide show.  The best part is that when viewed, you will see a replay of the creation from start to finish so you can see exactly how the artist composed the piece.

• Go to odosketch
• At the top of the screen, click the Sketch Slideshow link
• A slideshow will begin and will randomly replay sketches from the gallery

Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that can be used for storing, organizing, and manipulating data!

A spreadsheet is a document made up of COLUMNS and ROWS.  Columns are labeled with letters (a, b, c, etc.) and rows are labeled with numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.). Where a column and row intersect a rectangle is created.  The rectangle is called a CELL.

Each cell has its own ADDRESS. The address is a combination of the column letter and the row number.  The cell in the upper left corner is cell A1. (Just like playing Battleship!)

FORMULAS can be entered into cells to calculate data (add numbers, multiply numbers, etc.).

Scientists answer questions about the world they live in by formulating hypotheses and designing experiments to test them. A question is identified, and an experiment is designed to answer the question. Variables are identified and addressed to improve the precision of the experiment. 1) Download your images

Locate and download 3-5 images of people from the Internet to your Y: drive. The images need to be of recognizable people or celebrities. Celebrities to consider: movie stars, musicians, athletes, television personalities. Celebrities that wouldn't work are puppets, cartoons, imaginary people, Navi people, aliens, etc. Your pictures MUST be school appropriate. You should know what school appropriate is by now. If you aren’t sure let me know and I can explain to you a little more what this means personally. 

For Method #1 you will draw on a layer that covers the image of your celebrity to make their skin green.

For Method #2 you will make a new layer by creating a duplicate of your celebrity's image. You will then remove all the pixels in the duplicate layer except for the skin. You will change the HUE of the skin layer to a green color.
