Vision Statement

East/West Sylvan is a community that encourages a life-long commitment to learning through an enriched, rigorous, diverse, balanced, integrated curriculum with real world connections. Our school community creates a nurturing atmosphere that supports academic success, fosters respect and trust and values the innate abilities and unique qualities of each middle school student.

Belief Statement

We believe all students:
  • Can learn and grow academically, physically, socially and emotionally in order to achieve at their highest potential.
  • Can understand what it means to be a good citizen and can use that knowledge to actively participate at school and in their neighborhoods/city.
  • Can influence their learning through collaboration and cooperation with each other and the staff.
  • Should feel connected, known and respected by their peers, teachers and staff, because they are an integral part of our school.
  • Take ownership and demonstrate pride in our school.
We Believe an Effective Staff:
  • Is committed to pursuing positive change, both individually and in teams.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with colleagues during productive, structured planning time in order to improve the teaching-learning process.
  • Mentors our students.
  • Mentors and supports teachers who are new to the profession as well as teachers new to the school.
  • Provides differentiated instruction that meets the needs of students' learning styles, talents and interests in order to foster growth and understanding in diverse subject areas.
  • Welcomes community input and assistance on matters that impact our children.
