Plan: Read Medieval or Renaissance historical fiction novel with your book group
Assignment: In school and home reading, as well as
- vocabulary list and activities
- “Notable Quotables” – significant passages from novel
- Book In A Box group project
Timeline: Week of January 18-22
- Review novel choices with group
- Discuss Book In A Box project – show student examples and discuss expectations
- Split novel into fourths
Week of January 25-29
- All students have novel by Jan. 29
- Parent signature due Jan. 29
- Students may begin reading the first section of novel and begin week one assignment.
Week of February 1-4 (First book group meeting Feb. 4)
- Tuesdays will be project work days students should bring novel and assignments to class
- FIRST book group meeting – Thursday, February 4
- Week one worksheet due Feb. 4
- Review reading schedule, including parent in your group
Week of February 8-12 ( Second book group meeting Feb. 8)
- Meet in book groups and discuss reading schedule
- Tuesday project work session
- Fill in Who’s Doing What sheet for project
- Week two worksheet due Feb. 11
Week of February 15-19 (Third book group meeting Feb. 11)
- Tuesday project work session
- Week three worksheet due Feb. 18
- Consider setting (as its used to establish mood, place, time period, and cultures), conflict and character
Week of February 22-26 (Fourth, and final, book group meeting Feb. 25)
- Finish up discussions with novel groups (discuss resolution)
- Week four worksheet due Feb. 25
- ALL WEEKLY COMPLETED DISCUSSIONS SHEETS, VOCABULARY, NQs DUE MARCH 2 WITH YOUR BOOK IN THE BOX PROJECT
- Get last minute ideas for Book In A Box group project
