Alison Lanigan

My family posing at Cape Lookout
I am working part-time again this year and teaching one section of morning Core (literature, language arts, social studies). Our class meets second, third, and fourth period in Room 208. I take time each day to explain assignments to students and to give them the opportunity to write in their planners. Please check my Assignments page for updated assignment sheets, reading logs, study sheets, and current events directions. The Calendar page shows a summary of our daily and weekly schedule. Please also check student planners and binders for information and handouts on assignments. My pages were updated on Monday, February 13.

You may contact me at alanigan@pps.net, or by phone at school (503) 916-5356.

Third Quarter 2011-2012

Anna and Jake enjoying a morning on the water
Happy February! We are currently working on long-term writing unit in which students will complete three major projects that connect to an "expert" collage we made earlier this month. The writing assignments are: a simple expository speech, in which students demonstrate or teach something about that they know; a personal narrative; and a persuasive essay. We are doing reading of model texts to support the writing tasks, and also working through a second round of novel groups. In history, we are studying ancient India.

Opening Day Materials

My kids and I on the banks of the Deschutes River
Students receive a lot of paperwork during the first few days of school. In Core alone, I distributed a manila envelope and registration form from the office; a brand-new planner; and an opening day packet for our class that includes an introductory letter, course syllabus, and behavior expectations.
