As a special focus school, da Vinci Arts Middle School accepts applications from students who reside throughout the PPS school district. We seek to serve a culturally, ethnically and economically diverse group of arts-focused learners in grades 6, 7 and 8. Our goal is to create a rich arts-filled learning environment for students, staff and families. Here's how to join us!
The application process for the 2013-14 school year will begin February 8th. Application to da Vinci is a three step process: 1) Students and parents are required to come to an Information Session at da Vinci.
The deadline for completing the PPS Choice form is March15th.
At the information sessions you can meet the prinicpal and a few staff members, current students & parents. There will be a presentation, a Q & A portion and a tour. See dates below
2) Students and parents sign a da Vinci Statement of Understanding (pdf) that outlines the unique aspects of our school The da Vinci Statement of Understanding needs to be turned in at da Vinci. Please note we cannot accept faxed applications. Due at the school by March 19th at 5 pm
3) Fill out a Portland Public Schools School Choice form. The School Choice form needs to be turned in at the PPS Enrollment & Transfer Center (501 N Dixon) or it can be completed online. Deadline March 15th
We have 155 openings for incoming 6th graders and about 2-3 slots for 7th graders. A lottery is drawn from all applicants that have completed this process by the deadline to fill these slots. The lottery is used for both admittance and waitlist order. Waitlists are not held over from year to year. Students not accepted in the 6th grade need to re-apply in if they are interested in entering the lottery for any 7th grade openings.
The district no longer conducts a lottery for 8th grade openings. Students wishing to enter da Vinci at 8th grade will need to contact the PPS Enrollment & Transfer Center about a Hardship Application; 503-916-3205.

Student & parent must attend one of the sessions listed below.
Reservations are not necessary, just come to the one that best fits you and your child's schedule.
Please come on time and allow about 90 minutes.
Wednesday, February 13th at 3:15 We will gather in the cafeteria
Tuesday, February 19th at 3:15 We will gather in the cafeteria
Tuesday, February 26th* 6:00 pm It will start with a self-tour of open classrooms followed by a gathering in the auditorium.
Wednesday, March 13th at 9 am We will gather in the cafeteria
Tuesday, March 19th 3:15 We will gather in the cafeteria
Most sessions are led by a few staff members with student helpers.
They start with a presentation and conclude with a tour of the building.
*The exception is February 26th that is held like an Open House with classrooms open and many staff present.
Sorry, but in order to preserve the classroom environment da Vinci does not offer student shadowing opportunities. If you have further questions contact Connie Cheifetz.
