Listed below are databases and search engines organized in alphabetical order by subject area. Use these sites to  find academic papers, articles and journals for your research.

All-encompassing 


Gale Databases provide in-depth, up-to-date information you need to conduct research across the full range of scholarly, academic, business and general interest topics.

    Google Scholar is the Google search engine optimized for searching for exclusively scholarly literature that displays the number citations a work has, whether it can be downloaded as a PDF and your search can be organized by publishing date.


Multnomah County Library is a wealth of free information to anyone with a MCL card. You can search their Academic Search Primer with questions you may have on a subject or search their database of academic journals.


World Book Encyclopedia Online integrates primary and secondary source databases plus e-books in a single search of their encyclopedia. You can narrow your search by subject area and their historical timelines area great source of information.

Arts and Humanities Focused


The Electronic Poety Center's digital library is one of the oldest online resources for electronic poetry that aims to make available digital and contemporary innovative poetries, writing and literature.


The Getty Research Portal™ provides access to digitized art history texts and rare books through collaboration with international libraries.

JURN is a search engine optimized for indexing open access academic and scholarly articles and ejournals focusing on arts and humanities research. JURN also has a directory with over 3,000 links to journals with free and significantly free content.


The Oregon Historical Society's Collections Online Catalog provides digitized records for most of the Research Library's books and a number of photographs, maps, oral histories and other documents.


UbuWeb is a non-commercial digital library of 20th century avant-garde art that offers open access to out-of-print works, video, music, literature and more.

Gale Opposing Viewpoints is a database that focuses on current social issues that provides sample essays, biographies and more.


The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan research institute based in Washington, D.C. that conducts demographic research, public opinion polling and other forms of social science research.


The New York Times' Times Topics is where you can browse topic pages that collect all of the NYT published archival information on specific topics.
       
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics (STEM) Focused


The National Science Digital Library's search engine provides information on online open access educational material.

Science.gov searches an index of over 2,100 US government agency-selected sites for scientific research and information.


WorldWideScience.org is a global search engine compiling published scientific research from over 70 countries designed to accelerate scientific discovery. It is maintained by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information. Most of the full text documents provided by WorldWideScience.org sources are freely available and in the open domain.
