A friend of mine recently gave me an article about the Masai nomadic people of Eastern Africa. The article talked about the importance of being sure that their children are safe and well. The Masai, one of the most renowned and respected tribes in Africa, has a rich tradition of distinctive customs. One of these traditions is that when the Masai greet one another, they say, "And how are the children?" This respectful and concerned question for the children is key to their culture. For the Masai people, their response to this question is always the same: "All the Children are Well." For the Masai to say this, their children have to be the top priority within their tribe. Wouldn’t it be interesting if we could all respond the same way about our own children and say with confidence that all our children are well? What would it take for this to be true within our own community? Each day if you were asked "How are the children", could you respond that all of our children are well? How big of a smile would be on your face?

The Masai tribe has placed the importance on the children. Thank goodness that at Chief Joseph we practice this philosophy too. What could you as a parent do to help us insure that all of the children are well?
