Field Trips
Third Grade Field Trips
In third grade we go on several amazing field trips kids always enjoy:
Rice Rock Museum: a rock and mineral museum that show's a large family collection of beautiful specimens. There is a rock pile where a child can pick up a random awesome rock. There is also a gift shop where students can purchase rocks, minerals, arrowheads, and jewelry.
Pittock Mansion: The Pittocks built this beautiful mansion in 1910. Henry Pittock started the Oregonian newspaper. Their house had room for all their children, had elaborate bathrooms, playroom, incredible furniture, interesting closets in their many bedrooms, sunrooms, turkish smoking room, a large kitchen and pantry, a huge sitting room with a grand piano, a fancy dining room, a library and game room, a ballroom, and gorgeous paintings and portraits on the walls. From the grounds, you can see a spectacular view of our city, Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. And they had a carriage house for their horses, which is now a restaurant. They also have a gift shop. Bring your camera, and be prepared for an amazing treasure hunt activity booklet that helps you tour the house.
The Portland Bridge Walking Field Trip: We take the MAX to the Rose Quarter, and walk the Esplanade on both sides of the river, and cross some of the bridges, as well as looking at how the bridges move and are built. We study the types of bridges and make our won copies of them, all leading up to this trip.
