I have been a teacher in Portland Public Schools for 22 years. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I was also a Title 1 Reading and Math teacher. I taught at Kenton school for 19 years and have been here at Chief Joseph for 3 years. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two teenage daughters. I also enjoy reading, gardening and walking.

This year in third grade we will be actively involved in many fun and exciting learning activities.

We will study all about Portland. We will learn its history, its famous people, its bridges and much more. We will go on many field trips to explore our city and each student will will even build their very own bridge.

In science, we will study rocks and minerals, grow plants, and learn about changes that occur when water is boiled or frozen.

Third graders will also become great writers. We will read lots of books and then try to write like their authors. Soon, we will be writing using our own style and voice. The students will learn to use the writing process and will write in different modes. These include narrative, expository, persuasive, and imaginitive. I hope to have students learn to help write class newsletters and webpages.

In reading, we continue to use our newly adopted Scott Forseman Reading Program. We have an hour reading block where we commit to reading lessons and activities with the students in the classroom. Then we have another hour dedicated to small group reading where we go to reading groups and focus on leveled reading and strategies.

Finally, in math we learn fractions, skip counting by 2's, 3's 4's 5's and 10's, learn to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication story problems, telling time, counting collections of coins, reading charts and graphs, learning multiple facts to five and so much more!
Under construction
