FIRST GRADE Cathy Yarne Room 9
Feb. 21, 2012
Dear Parents,
The First Grade Musical Concert was enjoyable. I am proud of our students. A big thanks goes out to Mr. Clark our music teacher who needs to be given all the credit for this concert.
Our field trip to the The Magic School Bus: The Climate Challenge was great. It was an enjoyable coincidence that in the story, the Magic School Bus traveled to the Arctic where they showed several pictures of animals that the students covered in their reports. Thank you to all the parents who met us at the theater and helped assist our class.
This Wednesday is the 100th Day of school. Homework is due on this day.
In math, our new focus is measurement. Students will explore and experience the concept of measurement through a thematic unit about penguins. Students will be comparing their height and weight to different types of penguins.
This weeks phonic focus is Long A spelled “ai” and “ay”.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The first graders will be working with an artist to make a ceramic piece that will be displayed at the Art Ball. This is a detailed project so parent volunteers are needed. If you can volunteer during any or all of the sessions listed below, please contact me asap. cyarne@pps.net
