Q&A Session with Mrs. Barasch...
Q. What is the title and author of a favorite read aloud you've given?
A. Every September we do an author study on Kevin Henkes. His books provide a wonderful opportunity to discuss social issues with children, particularly those who are starting school. My favorites are Chrysanthemum and Wemberly Worried.
Q. What is a book that has been influential on your teaching?
A. Reading for Meaning by Debbie Miller.
Q. Who is a teacher that had a particularly lasting impact for you and what is one idea or experience that you have from them?
A. Mrs. Knab, my 3rd and 5th grade teacher. She cultivated a warm, nurturing classroom community that I will always remember and continues to be a source of inspiration.
Q. What year did you start teaching? What year did you start teaching at Capitol Hill?
A. I started teaching Kindergarten in 2009 at Capitol Hill Elementary. Prior to that, I did my student teaching at Buckman Elementary School and also taught preschool. I love the way the faculty and community here inform and enrich the lives of our students and feel privileged to be a part of it.

Q. What is the title and author of a favorite read aloud you've given?
A. In March last year the Kindergarten team celebrated Read Across America in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. One of the books I read to the kids was the famous Green Eggs and Ham. The rhymes were fun to read out loud and the children became inspired to read the book themselves!Q. What is a book that has been influential on your teaching?
A. The book Constructivism Across the Curriculum in Early Childhood Classrooms by Christine Chaille was passed on to me by a group of veteran teachers I worked with at Caitlin Gable and inspired me as I developed my philosophy of teaching and education.
Q. Who is a teacher that had a particularly lasting impact for you and what is one idea or experience that you have from them?
A. My third grade teacher Mrs. Stout is someone I will always remember and appreciate. Mrs. Stout took the time to boost her students' confidence and instilled in them a true love of learning.
Q. What year did you start teaching? What year did you start teaching at Capitol Hill?
A. Teaching Kindergarten at Capitol Hill in 2010 was my first formal year of teaching. Before last year I did my student teaching at Buckman Elementary in 1st and 4th grade and taught pre-school in Eugene in 2006. I feel fortunate to have had my first full year teaching here at Capitol Hill and am looking forward to working with the staff, parents, and students again this year.
