PPS announces new principal assignments

New principal announcements for 2014-15 include Juanita Valder, a veteran PPS vice principal, as new principal of Franklin High School and Filip Hristic, principal at Creative Science School K-8, as new principal of Roosevelt High School.

Portland School Board takes a stand on new test

July 23, 2014
The Portland School Board voted 7 to 0 July 22 on a resolution that calls upon state and federal education officials to delay the use of the new Smarter Balanced Assessment in teacher evaluation, provide the necessary funding to effectively implement the test and not use the test for punitive labeling of teachers, students or schools.

Board approves plan for adding classrooms to modernized high schools

July 23, 2014

The Portland School Board voted 7 - 0  on July 22 to allow PPS to allocate an additional $8 million for more classrooms in the modernized Roosevelt and Franklin high schools, increasing the number of courses students can take over their high school career.
