Volunteering in Music
2010-11 Volunteer opportunities:
- Join the ARTSPLAN committee and help develop a plan for a rich, equitable arts education for all Boise Eliot students. (Update: The committee developed a plan in 2010 and will ask teachers to begin to incorporate that plan into their teaching this year.)
- Choir helpers needed: phone tree, photographer, costumes, stage decor, fund raising, equipment set up, treats, parties, chaperone events, accompanists (what's your skill?) The sky's the limit! Let's talk. (Update: Last year Hakim and Amanda were awesome. Thanks!)
- Keyboard Lab assistants: If you have a little keyboard knowledge and would like to learn how to assist in the keyboard lab, I could sure use some help! (Update: The lab computer has been repaired, so with fingers crossed, we'll be able to use it more efficiently again this year.)
- Band:Do you know a bit about the trumpet, trombone, flute and/or clarinet? It won't be quiet, but it will be fun and make a big difference in the lives of our kids, if you could help us with those embouchures and fingerings. Maybe you can donate free lessons to a motivated student. (Update: We had Todd helping us most of last year. He was terrific! If we don't get another RACC grant this year, we'll be on our own, though. Really could use your horn skills, especially in the beginning of the year. Even if all you remember how to do is play a note, or hold the clarinet, you could help the beginners. Adult volunteer clarinet, flute, trumpet, sax, trombone, tuba and percussionists needed! PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!!
- General Music: Do you have a hidden (or public) musical talent that the children could learn from? I would LOVE to have you share with the class---or even several classes. Play the banjo, tap dance, strum your guitar, show us your musical instrument collection, tell us about the music of your ancestors, explain how sound engineering works, WHATEVER! Maybe you know someone who would share with us-----let's get them in here, too!
- Of course, you are always welcome to come and join your child's music class, as a participant, assistant or silent partner. Let me know what your level of participation is and I'll try to honor it! If you KNOW you're coming in and want to help, let me know ahead of time, so I'll be ready for you!
DONATION STATION:
Individually wrapped treats for choir and other special activities. (Money works, too!)
Band instruments---in fact--ANY instruments!
