Keyboard Lab

The Keyboard lab features 16 Casio CTK681 Keyboards, each equipped with 2 student headphones and can be set up in "split" mode so that the students sharing an instrument can not hear each other practice. This gives us, effectively, 32 student keyboards! Both large group and individual instruction can be delivered from the teacher's station.

State and National Benchmarks in music are being met at the keyboard lab while the students have a great time! Basic piano/keyboard skills are learned: patterns on the keyboard, five finger position, note reading, etc. The students are also encouraged to create and explore music and music technology in game-like, improvisational activities. Children are able to work at their own level in the lab, with extensions available for those who are ready to move on, while those who require more practice can continue to work on the basic skill.

Parents and guardians are always welcome to join us in the music room. I can always use help checking little fingers--or if you'd rather just listen and learn, we'll find you a spot! Call me to find out when your child's class is scheduled for keyboards (We do not use the keyboards for every music lesson). (916-6176)

The lab is very expensive and children are instructed in proper care of the equipment. Each child has an assigned station and is responsible to report (upon beginning the session) any problem with the equipment. Damage caused through carelessness or roughness will result in a parent conference and appropriate consequences.
