The month of January flew by this year and I am thrilled with the events taking place in this New Year. On Wednesday evening the cafetorium was packed with families enjoying the Third grade production of Portland: A Musical. The entire third grade class thrilled us with songs, skits and solos. A huge thank you goes out to our three third grade teachers and director, Ralph Nelson who supported and coached kids throughout the project, and to the ever supportive Beverly Cleary parents who worked on costumes, sets and stage management. As an administrator, I am always thankful for the wonderful support that our families provide.

The 6th grade classes, under the direction of Mrs. O’Brien, are rehearsing for their own production of Shakespeare’s, Taming of the Shrew. A daytime performance will take place for each class on February 10th. Casting has also been set for the 6-8th after school play, The Elves and the Shoemaker. We look forward to seeing more of our talented student actors as these productions hit the stage!

Next week brings the end of January and also closes out quarter two for our students. That means teachers will have Friday, February 3rd for preparing report cards and students will not be in school on that day. For families, report cards should be in the mail by February 7th. So check those mailboxes and please let the office know if you have any issues receiving a report card.

Speaking of report cards, some families may be surprised to see the accumulated totals of absences or tardies for their children. Please be sure you are helping your child get to school on time. Teachers sped time preparing well for their lessons and it is very hard if student arrive late or miss the lesson altogether. If you need assistance with attendance, please feel free to talk to any of our administrative staff.

Finally, we are looking forward to meeting our new Kindergarten families at Kindergarten Round-Up on February 16th. If you have neighbors with small children please help us by making them aware of this date. The evening program will begin at 6:30 and there is also a daytime program at 9:00. Please check the website for more details.
