Our Class Wants You!!!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I truly believe children learn best when the significant adults in their lives work together.  I would like to take this opportunity to extend a BIG WELCOME into my classroom.  Volunteers in my classroom will be a vital part of the school year.  I rely on adult volunteers for a variety of tasks and activities.  Thanks for your help in making this a fulfilling and exciting school year.  I couldn't do my job as well as I do without the help of my classroom parents.  Please complete the Volunteer Survey and return to school.  However, I always send out an email to the class list serve about current and upcoming volunteer opportunities and classroom needs.

Here are some ways you can help:

  • Field trip chaperone and/or field trip driver
  • Classroom help--work with individuals or small groups on projects, art, labs
  • Literature Circle Leader or Junior Great books
  • Guest Speaker--workplace/classroom connection
  • Behind the scenes--make copies, assemble supplies
  • Party Planner--help with classroom celebrations
  • Art expertise--photography, dance, music
  • Scholastic Book Club--collect and place orders
  • Did I miss a way you'd like to be involved?  If so, please ask.

Field Trips

I love to take field trips!  I think the educational value of extending our classroom so students get to see and live something in person is beyond measure.  The benefits are not only academic but social including building community and citizenship.  With that said, I'm hoping to take some field trips this year to supplement and enrich the curriculum and your child's character.  My preferred method of travel is private vehicles with parent drivers/chaperones.  The cost and difficulty of scheduling a bus versus organizing parents is prohibitive and I've had lots of success with parental assistance.  I am estimating that we will take 2-4 field trips this year at $5 to $10 each.  I have some ideas in the works for an overnight field trip in the spring that I will share at Back to School Night.

If driving/chaperoning on field trips is of interest to you, please do the following:

  1. Complete the District Volunteer Information Form and Volunteer Application Cover Sheet
  2. Also complete the Criminal History Verification Form along with the Driver/Vehicle Statement of Qualification Form.
  3. Attach a copy of your valid driver's license and declaration page of auto insurance policy showing proof of present coverage.  (We can make copies in the main office).
  4. Submit all forms (4) to me.  These steps are REQUIRED for you to chaperone.  Background checks take two weeks to complete, so please submit your paperwork as soon as possible.
