Hi First Grade Families,

           February is here and our Valentine party is on it’s way.  We will be celebrating the afternoon of the 14th.  If you want to sign up to help or bring treats there are still spots available.  Students will be passing out cards to their peers.  Remember we have 22 students so please bring enough for everyone.  A special thanks to Anna Hoffert for organizing this event!

Marathon has been very exciting lately.  Congratulations to four students, Navin, Andrew, Miles and Gabi have run a marathon this year!  We have several students who are within just a few miles of their first marathon as well!  Thanks to all of you for supporting our running by running or walking with us and sending your children to school with coats and running shoes.  We are not fair weather runners in room 2.

This Friday, February 10th report cards will be sent home with your student.  This is the first report card of the year, as we had conferences at the end of the first quarter.  If your student has a different reading teacher than myself, reading grades and comments are provided by that teacher.

We are learning….

Math: Penguins are going to help us study measurement.

Science: We continue to learn about different types of rocks and where they come from.

Reading: We are learning long vowel combinations, learning to sequence events and use prior knowledge.

Writing: Students are beginning expository writing with writing how to stories.
