6th Grade Core

6th Grade Core is all about transitions. Students spend most of their day with the same Core Teacher and Core Group of students. However, they will also spend part of their day learning how to navigate the building and the different demands of multiple teachers. 6th Graders rotate out for science, PE, elective, and in some cases: math. The 6th Grade Core classroom is not a a purely self-contained model like elementary school. Instead, it's a step away from being dependent on one teacher, and a step toward greater personal responsibility and independence.

Some of the major areas of study in 6th Grade Core include:

  • Prehistoric Man
  • Ancient Mediterranean Cultures
  • Ancient China
  • Ancient India
  • The Birth of Hinduism, Judaism, and Buddhism

There are currently 5 sixth grade cores. these cores are led by:

  • Laura Feltz
  • Bernie Hansen
  • Sheila Kelly
  • Donald Rose
  • Linda Scott
