A Message from the Principal:
Estimadas familias de Beaumont,
Dear Beaumont Families,
It is really cold outside; please help us keep your students appropriately dressed by encouraging them to wear coats. We will be going out for lunch recess every day. My Children! My Africa! A Production about Apartheid came to 8th grade students this week. We have a great relationship with Profile Theatre and they will be producing a performance with interested seventh and eighth grade students beginning rehearsals next month.
I look forward to seeing you all next week at Parent/Teacher conferences; it is that time when adults and the student can talk about academic and social goals together to create a successful school year. There will be lots of information about extra- curricular activities going on at Beaumont, so please be sure to pick up flyers in the cafeteria and as always check the newsletter every Friday.
We have been very busy this month with the Fall Band Concert, Girls’ Night Out, and the Beaumont Foundation Parent Mixer. Thank you to each of the parent volunteers and staff members who make these events possible. It is never too late to join the PTA, Foundation, BEBOP or take time to volunteer to chaperone a dance, a fieldtrip or help in a classroom. Check your students’ backpacks for a flyer from the Oregon Children’s Theatre titled the Bully Project. It is an opportunity for students to submit a 10 minute play using anti-bullying themes.
As we head into the holiday season I hope that each of our students has lots of family and friendship time. I have included a reminder below for all parents that I think is so valuable to remember.
Love Them for Who They Are
Unconditional acceptance of your children not only builds a strong relationship with them, but encourages them to have confidence and trust in themselves. Separate who your children are (their being) from what they do (their behavior). Remember, behavior can always change.
Help your children discover their interests and passions and encourage them to pursue their interests by providing opportunities and support.
Spend time with your children. This helps build strong relationships and provides opportunities for you to teach and model essential skills. Use words, gestures, and touch frequently to let your children know that you love them.
Take time to have extended conversations with your children. Bedtimes, meals, and car rides are often good times. As often as possible, have family dinners where you can share news, discuss problems, and make plans. Research shows that children who have dinner with their families several times a week are less likely to smoke or use illegal drugs, have sex at young ages, and get into serious fights.
