A message from the Principal

Dear Beaumont Families,

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow at Beaumont’s Grounds Cleanup, in honor of Earth Day. Rain and sun on the same day; these are all signs of spring at Beaumont Middle School. There are still lots of important things to learn and master during 4th quarter, so we are making every day count. Please continue to support your student staying focused; check their planners and homework assignments.

We have completed the first rounds of statewide assessments in reading, math and science for our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Final results will come to families in the mail over the summer. These assessments are one tool to look at student growth, as well as EdBox and report cards. We are very proud of our students and their hard work this year. Each of us must support our students ending the year academically strong. You should see your student doing homework every single evening.

This is the time when the PTA, Foundation and Site Council are looking for new members. Please give of your time to support these very important roles in our school. Remember that student success is directly tied to parent involvement.

Staffing Time for 2013-14…

It is that time in the year when we begin the staff process for next fall. Staffing allocations are based on the Superintendent and School Board’s approved budget. Beaumont given our projected enrollment will be holding steady. Staffing is a complicated process that takes thoughtful, creative and logical planning. My goal is to continue to provide a robust and rigorous academic experience for all students. I also take into consideration teachers’ professional licensure and personal requests. The staff and Site Council members have also given us input this spring.

Although the State of Oregon increased the State-Wide Education budget, it does not fully make up for one-time school staffing resources. Additionally, Ratios also increase through (1) Shifting Allocations between schools, allocating less by Ratio and more by Equity (5% to 8%), (2) allocating 20.25 FTE to Focus and Priority Schools (3) HS for School-Wide Support increases.
The middle school staff ratio increased from 24.24:1 to 25.25:1 for 2013-14.

Ms. Vimegnon, the Assistant Principal, a committee of staff members and I will be working on staffing and the schedule for the next two weeks. The Transfer and Enrollment Lottery runs this week, which may impact our final student enrollment. We will communicate with families as soon as the staffing and schedule are finalized.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Elizabeth Casson-Taylor
Beaumont Principal
