Getting the news about bad weather

You can get PPS weather-related delay and closure information in several places:

  • On the PPS home page, PPS Inside and all school websites.
  • Like us on the PPS Facebook page
  • Follow us on Twitter @PPSAlerts for emergency news, @PPSConnect for school, district and emergency news.
  • Rapid Broadcast phone calls in all supported languages to the PRIMARY number listed on your student’s registration paperwork. Report phone number changes to your school office.

PPS decision-making process

Go to the Student Transportation webpage to learn how PPS decides to delay or close schools and other important information. View Snow Routes & Schedules for Buses. Remember to add two hours to the bus times in the event of a two-hour late start.

PPS also uses the Flash Alert service to relay emergency closure information to news media. Flash Alert allows anybody to receive the same alerts the news stations do, but PPS cannot guarantee their delivery.

Cafeteria News

Cafeteria News:

CEP Schools:  If you have a 6th Grader that is now at Beaumont from Rigler Elementary, you will need to fill out a meal application form or add money to your child’s account. Currently, 25 of the Portland Public Schools provide the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) so when a student transfers to another school, they will most likely have a change to their account status. You can find more information on free and reduced meals and the CEP program at the PPS website: Free and Reduced Priced Meals.  You can apply online or stop by the school office or cafeteria and pick up an application.  It takes longer to process a paper application so please fill one out as soon as possible to prevent negative balances on their meal account.  To add money to an account, you can do that online at My School Bucks  (formerly mylunchmoney.com).

Free Meal Application:  Just a reminder that this year’s meals applications for all students from non-CEP schools and from Beaumont, will need to be filled out by October. These are the same forms that students would fill out from a CEP school, so you can pick one up at the school office or cafeteria. One application can be filled out for all students even if they are at different schools. An online application can be filled out here.

Second Lunches: In order for your child to get a second lunch, they must have permission from a parent or guardian.  This can be done in writing or by a phone call.  The request will apply for the entire school year, unless you communicate any changes.  All meal prices are the same as last year. You can also find more information about the school menu on the website: Menu and Prices.

It’s going to be a fun year with a few menu updates for breakfast and lunch that we hope the students will enjoy. About 38% of our menu is local foods and much of that is featured during our Harvest of the Month. In September the feature is corn and in October we will have delicious apples from Hood River.

If you have any questions, you can call the cafeteria lead, Diane, at 503-916-5610.
