If every student collects just 10 Box Tops then Atkinson receives over $500! Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Any time you purchase participating products (General Mills, Betty Crocker, Yoplait, Green Giant, Kleenex, Ziplock and Hefty to name some), clip the pink Box Tops off the packaging and turn them into the office. Attach them to a Box Top Buck to be eligible for prizes. Every Box Top counts!

Dear Atkinson Families,
 
I am absolutely elated to be the principal of such an amazing school! Our incredible staff and I welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year.  We hope that this year is filled with learning, growth, success, and opportunities.  Students deserve the best we have to offer, to be safe, and to have a rich learning environment, which will encapsulate their experience at Atkinson.

The Incredible Hulk inspires young readers

January 22, 2015
Lou Ferrigno shares his personal story about the importance of reading to him as a child to Verno School students. Lou Ferrigno -- body builder, trainer and the actor who portrayed The Hulk in the CBS TV series in the late 1970s and early 1980s -- visited Vernon School today to take part in the district's effort to help ensure that all students read well by the end of the third grade.

PIL Athletics expands Coaching Boys Into Men program

January 15, 2015
Multnomah County Commissioner Judy Shiprack, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and PPS Superintendent Carole Smith joined PPS District Athletic Director Marshall Haskins at the announcement. After a successful pilot program last year at Franklin High School, the Portland Interscholastic League will expand to all high schools the program that aims to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.

Students teach fellow students for No Name-Calling Week Jan. 19-23

January 15, 2015
Skyline 4th and 5th graders made posters offering tips to younger students on how to handle bullies. Skyline K-8 School is one of a dozen Portland Public Schools taking part in the national campaign to end bullying and promote kindness among students.
