Policies
The Basics:
- No food or drinks in the library
- Walk
- Sit crisscross on the carpet or on your bottom in a chair
- Browsing sticks are for marking your place on the shelf, not for hitting (yourselves or others)
- Be respectful to people and to library materials
Book Check Out:
- K-2: may check out 1 book
- 3-8: may check out 2 books (not including textbooks)
- If you forgot to return your books, you will not be able to check out until they are returned.
- All books that are checked out are due in 2 weeks (not including textbooks)
- Returning books – place books in the green book return only!
Lost or Damaged Books:
- If you do not return your book you will not be able to check out a new one.
- If a book is damaged please return it for Mrs. Tomblin to repair. Do not try to repair a book yourself. If the damage is severe then you will have to pay for the cost of replacement.
- If a book is lost you will not be able to check out until the book has been found or paid for. Our library software sends email reminders about overdue books. You will not receive your report card at the end of the year if you have a bill on your library account. Fines stay on student accounts until they are resolved (even when the student transfer schools).
Library Sections & Grade Levels: (this helps to ensure that there are enough books available for each grade level and that students are reading books that are appropriate for them. Exceptions can be made, please speak with Mrs. Tomblin)

- Early Readers (CHAP ER): K-5
- Chapter Books (CHAP): 1-5

Computers:
- Can be used by 3rd grade and above (after the 3rd graders have been taught how to use them in the Fall)
- Are for searching the catalog or working on a library project ONLY - No YouTube, games, etc…
- There is a 2-3 minute time limit for searching the catalog so that others may use them
- Do not change any preferences (backgrounds, toolbars etc…). You will not be allowed to use the computers if this happens.
- If a student is looking up inappropriate words or playing around they will not be able to use the computer for the rest of class. If the behavior continues, they will not be allowed to use them at all and the administration will be notified.
Grades:
- All middle school students will receive grades in library.
- Sometimes you will have a worksheet to complete during class that will be graded. Sometimes we will be working on a larger project and you will receive a grade for the project, not for each class.
- If you miss an assignment that cannot be made up at a later time speak with Mrs. Tomblin.
- Extra Credit or Make Up Work: read a grade level appropriate book and write a 1 page response (a brief summary and an explanation of why you did or did not like the book or what you learned from it).
