Two-hour late opening, Wednesday, April 16

Wednesday, April 16 is a two-hour late opening for most elementary, K-8 and middle schools; classes commence two hours later than usual.  The following schools are closed a full day: Chavez, George, King, Lane, Rigler, Rosa Parks, Scott, Sitton, Vernon, Whitman and Woodmere. High schools are on normal schedule and not impacted by this professional development day.

Gray MS teacher Siedel is Milken winner

Milken Foundation Co-Founder Mike Milken surprised Robert Gray Middle School math teacher Teresa Chan Seidel with the national Milken Educator Award April 15 amid a jubilant all-school assembly. Called the "Oscar of Teaching," the award includes a $25,000 prize.

PPS, Concordia partner on Faubion plan

April 01, 2014
Portland Public Schools, Boora Architects and Concordia University presented the master plan for a proposed Faubion PK-8 School rebuild for school board review March 31.  The Faubion rebuild and modernization of Franklin, Grant and Roosevelt high schools will be paid for with the eight-year, $482 million PPS School Building Improvement Bond. Long-time alternative school closing its doors

April 01, 2014
The Youth Employment Institute, a valued community-based alternative school that has served Portland Public Schools students for 30 years, has announced that it plans to close due to financial reasons. The school district will cover an extra month of services, placing the school’s closure date at April 30, to give time for PPS to assist the program’s 34 students in finding other schools. [More]
