Dear Families:
Welcome to First Grade. We are
looking forward to an exciting year with your children. These first few
weeks are a time of getting acquainted, becoming familiar with class and school
routines, establishing classroom rules and making friends. Classroom rules
involve cooperative learning, respect for others, and always doing our personal
best.
Our school day is from 8:40 A.M. to 3:00
P.M. Please respect the teachers’ planning time before and after school; a
prepared teacher will provide the best learning environment and most effective
instructional time. If you need to speak to us let us know; we believe
that open communication is key to having a successful year. Conversations
should occur during non-instructional time. We are flexible in arranging
times to speak with you.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer at any
time in the classroom. We will always need help during literacy time (both
reading and writing with students) and during Art lessons. Also, there are
always administrative tasks that need to be done. Both the sign up
sheets and classroom schedule will be available during Open House on September
29th, 2010.
Please let us know if you need to pick your
child up early. To keep your child safe, please inform us how he/she will
be getting home. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your
child, including play dates, please let us know in writing.
Birthday celebrations can occur at the end
of the school day. Let us know in advance so we can plan
accordingly. Remember, these treats must be store bought and healthy
options (such as popcorn, fruit, vegetables and nuts) are
preferred.
We are already planning our field trips
(pumpkin patch, Oregon Children’s Theatre and Rice’s NW Rock Museum). Field
trips will be funded by a combination of classroom funds and parent
contribution. We will let you know before each field trip what is
needed.
We understand the importance of snack in
the A.M. Please talk to your child’s teacher to see how it is organized in
their room.
