Dear 4th grade parents, 2-17-12 Our Oregon timeline pictures are in the upper hallway, if you’d like to brush up on your state’s history. The activity was part of celebrating Oregon’s 153rd birthday on Tuesday. We’re also writing a book of historical fiction, based on the perspectives of native tribes who met Lewis and Clark in 1804-1806. We’ve been impressed with our students’ ability to imagine different perspectives. Also, the student writing is becoming more complex, as they apply literary devices used by some of the authors they’re reading in literature circles. As we begin planning for spring garden planting, we’re using our mathematical understanding of area and perimeter. In addition, we’ll use literature circle time to read Seedfolks, a novel about how a community created a garden out of a vacant lot. Abernethy fourth graders have the wonderful opportunity to plan, plant, and harvest food from the garden. Monday is Presidents’ Day, so we’ll have a 4-day week. Homework packet #21 will be due Thursday. Have a great week! Eric Hartman Lydia Poole
