Curriculum components
- The academic program for young women in grades 6 through 12 will prepare each student for the goal of going to college and for success in future careers.
- Students will complete four years of high school English and will be strongly encouraged to take four years of high-school level math and science. They will also be required to take at least two years of a world language. These courses will be aligned with Oregon state standards.
- Advanced students can begin taking courses for high school credit in middle school.
- Students will be exposed to college-level academics through Advanced Placement or dual-enrollment classes with Portland Community College. They will have a solid foundation of skills to ensure their success in those classes because of the pre-AP strategies integrated into the curriculum starting at the 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels.
- The school will have a concentration on math, science and leadership. Electives currently include marine biology, introduction to engineering design, art, digital media, social justice, Spanish 1–2, Spanish 3–4, Spanish 5-6, French 1–2, French 3-4, AVID, reading support, math support and academic study skills. Elective offerings will be expanded in the 2010-11 school year.
- We started a four-year engineering pathway program taught using Project Lead the Way curriculum. Students are currently taking Introduction to Engineering Design. Over the next three years, we will be offering the following advanced engineering courses: Digital Electronics/Robotics, Architectural and Civil Engineering and a senior year capstone course involving the design of a community project.
- Teachers will practice and share a variety of classroom activities to accommodate different learning styles; provide multiple assessment tools and models; and create lively, engaging opportunities to learn challenging material.
