About:
One of four academies at Jefferson High School, the Academy of Arts and Technology offers students a rigorous college preparatory education with concentrated training in the performing and visual arts. Students choose a major in dance, drama, art, music or digital media while completing courses for an arts/technology endorsement. The Performing and Visual Arts Focus Option program will be integrated into this academy. Presently in the Academy of Arts And Technology, students can earn their Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) and Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM) endorsements within the Career Pathway areas of Arts and Communication and Human Resources.

Community partnerships
- Jefferson High School offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with Portland community College. This collaboration with higher education: gives every student opportunities to take dual credit courses as part of their major area of study, provides courses to support students in preparing for college and offers opportunities to work on credit retrieval to earn their high school diploma. Jefferson is committed to providing students with opportunities within the local community for internships, job shadowing and volunteer work.
Student learning environment
- Small learning communities (major areas of study) promote regular support for students needing tutoring, direction in completing their Certificate of Initial Mastery and guidance in creating a Senior Project for their major.
- Support services provided for students who require more focused assistance to succeed in school and transition to college.
Curriculum components
- The small academy model is designed to support students in meeting state and college entrance standards and to propel all students toward their academic potential. Academies are designed not only to personalize education, but to foster community responsibility and citizenship.
- Teachers and outside professional artists collaborate to create courses that are integrated and support skills necessary for next steps relative to work, school or career. TAG services, Advanced Placement courses, credit by examination, Special Ed services and ESL services are provided for students who require them.
- Students participate in career exploration through volunteer service, job shadowing and internships. Students are also provided with numerous opportunities to showcase and exhibit their work.
- Academy of Arts and Technology students can participate in an area of study to include: dance, drama, music, art and digital technology. Each area has a prescribed set of rigorous courses that offer a broad perspective of that field of study.

- Teaching teams meet regularly to coordinate lessons and review student performance.
Parent and family support
- Students, parents, teachers and counselors collaborate to set academic and behavioral goals.
Special programs and features
- PCC Dual Credit Partnership includes opportunities for students to take advanced, enrichment and remediation course work on the PCC Cascade Campus for dual credit.
