About:
Harvey Scott School is in a three-year transition to become a K–8 school. Currently, we have sixth grade, and next year we will add seventh. The school has great community support and parent involvement. We are truly a neighborhood school. Harvey Scott celebrates diversity. The student body includes a large English as a Second Language, Special Education classes, Title I and Talented and Gifted students. Library, PE, after school clubs, sports and community service projects enrich the instructional program. Harvey Scott focuses on literacy and math with the goal of every child meeting the benchmark level by the end of fifth grade. Mathematics instruction features hands-on and problem-solving experiences, and a balanced literacy curriculum allows students to explore reading, writing and speaking in small groups. Students in grades K–3 are participating in the Reading First grant, which provides at least 90 minutes of language arts, literacy, spelling and writing instruction daily. The Accelerated Reader program recently added thousands of dollars worth of new books to our library, and the SMART program brings more than 30 volunteers into the school annually. Community support and parent involvement contribute to the strong academic program.
