About:
The Lane School community encourages social and emotional growth, academic success and respect for one another, inspiring every member of our learning community to meet the challenge of the future. Academic excellence is achieved as we give all Lane students a rigorous, comprehensive, academically oriented curriculum with continuous practice in critical and creative thinking, problem solving, collaboration, skill building and decision making. Leadership and student voice is achieved as we encourage our students to be active participants in the school community. We prepare students, both in and out of the classroom, to become responsible and active members of our school and community. Curriculum components
- Lane is structured in three grade-level teams. Teachers stress high academic rigor by identifying the essential standards that provide students with opportunities that make learning beyond the classroom significant and relevant.
- Teachers work as a team at each grade level. They develop projects that suit the needs and interests of the balanced group of students in each class. A daily planning period allows teachers and support specialists to plan and develop curriculum and discuss student work and data.
- Lane's team-structure system allows for greater flexibility
than many traditional programs. - Learning Gardens: A delicious partnership between LaneMiddle School, Portland State University and the City ofPortland has produced the Learning Gardens Lab (LGLab).LGLab is a 13-acre campus where Lane Middle School andPortland State students and professors discoverrelationships between their academic subjects and theirdaily lives through direct experiences with seasonal cycles, energy flows and their diverse communities.
