About:
Faubion is a PK-8th neighborhood school located in the heart of the Concordia Community. Rich with diversity, this community is deeply committed to students and their achievements. Faubion received the "Excellence in Education" Award from the State of Oregon and the Portland Schools Foundation in 2006, as well as the "Sustaining Excellence" Award from the Portland Schools Foundation in 2007.
Pre School: One full-day section of PK.
Kindergarten: Two full-day sections of Kindergarten.
Kindergarten Round-up: Parents should call for individual meetings and school tours.
Childcare: YMCA before and after school childcare program.

Student learning environment
- Faubion is a Character Education Grant school. The Life Skills curriculum teaches children lifelong guidelines for becoming productive citizens in our society.
- Teachers use strategies appropriate for each child's stage
of development; assessment guides instruction. - Faubion is a safe and violence-free school.
- Tutoring programs for all students in need through SUN Community School Homework/Tutoring and Start Making A Reader Today (SMART) program.
Curriculum components
- Heavy emphasis on meeting and exceeding state standards in reading, writing and math; Uppergrade students experience departmentalized instruction in social studies, math and science.
- Students also benefit from Investigations Math Curriculum, artists-in-residence, Talented and Gifted (TAG) program, Accelerated Reader Program, Parent Outreach Library, Reading Buddies, Cascade Streamwatch Program, part-time music program and 5th and 6th grade band, full-time PE, full-time positive behavior specialist, cooperative learning and multicultural education.
- Two wireless network portable computer labs allow for whole group instruction in basic skills, keyboarding, word processing, use of the Internet and network resources. Macintosh and PC computers.
- Student needs are met through collaborative efforts of the classroom teacher, Educational Resource Center staff, ESL staff and educational assistants.
Staff
- 17 classroom teachers, 1 full-time PE teacher, 1 full-time positive behavior specialist, half-time music teacher, Learning Center teacher, ESL teacher, full-time speech and language pathologist, part-time school psychologist and 2 paraprofessionals, 5 educational assistants and 1 library assistant.
- Ongoing staff development involves district curriculum initiatives, with a special focus on writing instruction, literacy, mathematics and Character Education.
Parent and family support
- Families offer support on the PTA, Local School Advisory Committee (LSAC) and Faubion Site Council, African American Family Forum and Spanish Speaking Family Forum.
- Family members volunteer in classrooms and the library, are chaperones for field trips, sponsor extracurricular activities, volunteer for health screenings, help coordinate school activities and monthly family involvement activities and sponsor fundraising activities.
- Connections between home and school are strengthened through signed home/school compacts, family curriculum and activity nights, and SUN School.
- Touchstone project supports families in achieving their goals by building positive relationships, putting families in touch with area social services, providing referrals, etc.
Special programs and features
- SMART is a statewide program that links businesses and schools to provide volunteers for reading with students in grades K-3rd. Businesses also provide funds to purchase books that are given to students each month for home libraries.
- SUN Community School offers after school and evening programming for students and the community. A wide range of courses including dance, drama, music, crafts, homework tutoring, cooperative play, drill teams and healthy nutrition. Family Fun Nights occur on a trimester schedule.
- Accelerated Reader Program is a computer-assisted reading and testing program that provides incentives to students for improving their skills (grades 1st-5th).
