About:
Bridger School provides a unique and caring learning environment for neighborhood and Spanish Immersion students. We have a 12,000-square-foot water garden with native plants, which helps the environment with disconnected downspouts off the roof. The water garden is used as a direct link to our strong literacy program, progressive science units and integration of the arts and music. Our multicultural, multiethnic population is served by a growing Spanish Immersion program that will added 2nd grade this year. We have bilingual staff in Spanish and Chinese. We currently offer music, PE and technology as specials. Our after school classes vary year to year, but offer art and fun science, as well as homework club. Bridger has three full day kindergartens: neighborhood and Spanish Immersion. Our mid level students benefit from electives that include Spanish World Language, music and Drama, PE and technology with dedicated support in science, mathematics, language arts and social studies. All teachers encourage students to be independent thinkers, learners and problem solvers. They empower students to take responsibility for their own learning, as well as their social and emotional choices. Teachers use thematic units and project-based instruction which is aligned with Oregon state standards.

Before and after school programs
- Vermont Hills Child Care (before and after school) is available for parents who need child care.
- After school enrichment program changes each trimester. Classes include Art, Music, Mad science, and sports.
Community partnerships
- In 2002 Bridger partnered with Urban Water Works to create a “rainwater garden” in the play area adjacent to the school. This project brought in a wide array of community partners, including the City of Portland. We continue to work toward diverting storm water runoff into our garden “wetland.\" Our Bridger PTA continues to act as stewards of the garden. In 2009 Bridger student council added a garden committee which encourages students to take part in the up-keep of the garden.
- Bridger is also a teacher training site. Portland State University,Warner Pacific College, and Concordia College places teacher training interns and practicum students at Bridger.
- Young Audiences helps manage Run for the Arts for additional assemblies and art experiences. In 2009 Bridger had a glass artist.
- Grace Baptist Church, SOLV and the Bridger neighborhood community help with our Fall Community Care Day which provides students and families with a clean and manicured front yard.
- Chess for Success supports coaches for chess. This is part of the after school offering.
- This year we have two Americorp Volunteers. One, Playworks is providing valuable support with games at recess and helping the counselor with conflict resolution on and off the playground. The other is providing support with parent engagement, helping to plan and implement evening and daytime activities that will bring parents into the school. We love having these young people and their ideas floating around Bridger.
