About:
Harrison Park School is a K-8 school. We have received the Portland Schools Foundation Award for Excellence in Education, which recognizes high-performing Title I schools, in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Harrison Park School provides a comprehensive academic program with 90 minutes of reading each day, 90 minutes of math and 45 minutes of writing, in addition to science and social studies in grades K-6. Our 7th and 8th grade students have 45-minutes periods of instruction for reading, writing, math, social studies, science. They also have an elective. Strong academics are enhanced with PE, technology, art, Spanish I & II, and a music program. In addition to classroom teachers, students receive support from an extensive team of on-site specialists, including ESL teachers, Special Education teachers, Title I Reading specialists, speech pathologists, a school psychologist, a school counselor, an assistant principal and a student management specialist.
Pre School: None.
Kindergarten: We have three full-day kindergarten classrooms.

Before and after school programs
- Harrison Park School has a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods)extended-day program, which provides students with a variety of academic, recreational, and enrichment programs. Academic, recreation and enrichment activities are conducted after the regular school day. Participation is voluntary.
We also have an ASPIRE program (After-School Program for Immigrant and Refugee Education) for our 4th - 8th grade students and their families.
In addition, we have a Successful Schools Transition program to provide academic support and high-school preparedness for our 8th grade students.
- SUN after school classes include: Chess Club, Bicycle Club,aka Science, Research Rangers, Soccer, and Girls, Inc.
Classes change each trimester, and also have included Hip Hop dancing, and garden club.
Community partnerships
- Harrison Park School has many community partners who contribute to our goal of helping every student to reach their highest academic and social achievement/potential.

Student learning environment
- Harrison Park School has received the Excellence in Education Award from the Portland Schools Foundation in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. This award is given to high- achieving Title I schools.
- Along with high expectations for student achievement, Harrison Park School staff differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual children and their own unique learning styles.
- A schoolwide Effective Behavior System focuses on the expectation that all Harrison Park students will be respectful, responsible, and safe in their words and actions.

Staff
- Our experienced, child-centered staff focus on high expectations for achievement in reading, writing, math,social studies and science. Ongoing staff developmentprovides training in current best practices to supportincreased student achievement in all content areas.
- Harrison Park staff include 29 classroom teachers, 2 reading specialists, 2.5 special education teachers, 5.75 English as a Second Language teachers, 4 educational assistants, 3 secretaries, 1.5 PE teacher, 1 full-time technology teacher, 1 half-time music teacher, 1 full-time art teacher, 1 full-time library media specialist, 1 school counselor, 1 assistant principal, 1 half-time school psychologist, 1 speech pathologist and 1 student management specialist.
Parent and family support
- Harrison Park School has an involved PTA and Site Council. Harrison Park School\'s PTA works diligently on fundraising to provide for many worthwhile projects that enhance the learning experience, for example, field trips.
- SUN, Multnomah County Health Clinic, Morrison Center, and Multnomah County Mental Health services are available to our students and families.
- Annual events include Holiday Family Craft Night, Project Second Wind, Family Math Night, Family Reading/Writing Night, Family Science Night, Run for the Arts and field day.
- Monthly schoolwide newsletters, weekly classroom newsletters, conferences and personal contacts keep parents informed about student progress.
- OASIS Intergenerational Literacy Tutors, as well as Portland Reading Foundation, assist Harrison Park School students in academic areas.
- Connections between home and school are strengthened through the SUN program, which offers classes for parents, including cooking, computer skills, GED and English as a Second Language.
- A large segment of parent/family volunteers provide classroom assistance, go on field trips, help in the library and coordinate many school activities.
Special programs and features
- Reading Is Fundamental is a PTA-sponsored program that provides books to students three times a year.
- A schoolwide Effective Behavior System acknowledges good citizenship, behavior and academic progress.
