About:
Markham enjoys a consistent record of high student achievement. We are very proud of our diverse student population and celebrate daily the richness that this offers all of our students. Our experienced principal and staff support the work of 16 classroom teachers and 8 education specialists, who bring an array of teaching expertise to the Markham community. The curriculum provides a well-rounded education with special emphasis on reading, math, writing and analytical thinking. Students learn in a cooperative, team-based environment that accommodates different learning styles and encourages social development. There is a yearlong curriculum plan, and much instruction is delivered in thematic units developed by teaching teams. Physical education, library skills, computer lab, music and art instruction supplement regular classroom work. Markham has a half-time child counselor. The active involvement of families contributes to our students’ success. Volunteers work in the classrooms on an ongoing basis and also coordinate many special events. The Site Council sponsors the Winter Reading Challenge and Spring Math Blast.
