About:
Rosa Parks is the district's newest elementary school, nestled in North Portland's Portsmouth Neighborhood. Rosa Parks School is a true neighborhood school, where most students walk or bike to school. We foster a caring climate in which children's needs are the first priority. Rosa Parks emphasizes powerful, hands-on learning experiences for all children with an emphasis on literacy skills. A school wide reading and writing program creates a coherent learning environment in all classrooms from kindergarten to fifth grade. The arts are integrated into the curriculum, and students receive additional instruction from our dance, drama and visual arts specialists. High standards for achievement are set for all students, and a firm, fair, consistent and positive behavior-management system is in place to ensure all students are held to high standards for behavior. Families are always welcome at Rosa Parks, and parents are encouraged to participate in the PTO, Site Council and school committees. Family nights, weekly parent coffees and student-recognition assemblies also allow families to engage in learning and celebrating student and school success.
