About:
Ainsworth School provides a strong and rigorous program taught by a caring and dedicated staff. A challenging and enriching educational experience is here for every student. Ninety-six percent of all third-, fourth-,and fifth-graders meet or exceed reading standards, and ninety-five percent meet or exceed math standards. Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs and abilities of each student. Ainsworth is committed to a balanced curriculum that includes art, media and technology, physical education and music. Our students are connected to their community through class projects and service. We expect students to take responsibility for their own behavior, learn to solve problems,and make sound decisions using critical-thinking skills. After school enrichment includes: Strings, Band, Drama,Chess Club, Writers Club, Environmental Club,and Mad Science Classes. The PTA and Foundation Parent groups involve families throughout the year in the traditional “Buckaroo” (carnival), back-to-school picnic, school-wide parades, the Red Ball Auction and our award-winning samba band. Ainsworth is a focus-option school for Spanish Immersion(Language). This K–5 program continues to East/West Sylvan Middle School and Lincoln High School and allows students a unique educational opportunity for a K–12 language rogram through Portland Public Schools.

Childcare: Monday through Friday 2:15 to 6 p.m. Provided by Ainsworth After-Care Program.

Before and after school programs
- Ainsworth After School Care, governed by a parent association and managed by child care professionals, serves 125 K-5 students. The program also offers parent-sponsored enrichment classes after school.

Curriculum components
- The curriculum provides a solid foundation in language arts and mathematics. Developing higher-level thinking and understanding concepts, processes and relationships in science, math and technology will continue to be emphasized at Ainsworth.
- The instructional program emphasizes high expectations, achievement and learning outcomes that will help children gain the skills necessary to live and succeed in a rapidly changing world.
- Ainsworth teaching staff and support personnel use a variety of strategies to actively engage students in learning.

- 17 classroom teachers in grades 1–5, 4 full-day kindergarten teachers, 1 PE specialist, 1 Educational Resource Center specialist, 3 Spanish Immersion instructional assistants, 1 library/media specialist, 1 music specialist, 1 art teacher, 1 principal, 1 school secretary, and 1 principal\'s secretary.
Parent and family support
- Family involvement is an integral part of Ainsworth School Parents provide support by volunteering in the classroom and by serving on the PTA, Local School Advisory Committee,
Site Council Committee and various other committees.
Special programs and features
- The Spanish Immersion Program provides instruction to more than 52 students per grade level in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students receive half of their instruction in Spanish and half in English. This program is in its nineteenth year. Families must apply to the program through
the PPS lottery system
