Laurelhurst's Media Center
Suzanne Kay Jaynes, Media Specialist
Welcome to the Laurelhurst Media Center, a spacious modern
center. Our collection includes about 13,000 books and materials.
The Media Center supports the school curriculum and offers an
opportunity for student research and recreational reading. Mrs.
Jaynes tries to correlate Media Center activities with classroom
lessons to make the children's Media Center experience more meaningful.
Students need to see that the Media Center is a place where
information is readily available.
Books are available to all students, teachers and parents.
Students are encouraged to come in and check out books at anytime
during the week using our automated check-out system. A portion of
each weekly library class time is also used for book selection.
Students may check out books for a two week period. Our Media
Center is converting to the DYNIX circulation and on-line catalog system.
DYNIX is used by the Multnomah County Public Library.
Laurelhurst classrooms and Media Center use Macintosh
computers. We have a large collection of computer programs and
CD-ROMs. The computers in all of our classrooms are connected to the
Internet.
Parent VIP's are a vital part of our Media Center program.
The time that they volunteer to check books in and out, reshelving
books and materials and help with the processing of books is invaluable to
having a smooth running center. Please contact the Media Center or
the PTA VIP's Coordinator if you are interest in helping.
A final thought: Reading with your
child, reading to your child, or listening to your child read are so
important to having your child become a lifelong learner.
