Lane welcomes parents to call, visit, volunteer, ask questions, share concerns, meet staff, and enhance the learning envoinrnment.

Parent / Teacher Coffee Chat Thursdays 9:00am - 10:00am in the family center

Nutrition Services
Free or reduced meals applications, Lunch menu, nutrition and health information.
TAG
Talent And Gifted students are challenged and paced fittingly to modified instruction. Students have the opportunity to recieve high school credit while still in 8th grade.
Family Center

Lane provides a room inside the school building where parents, family and community members have a place to make themselves comfortable instead of awkwardly hanging around the office when waiting for meetings or visiting the school.


In the family center room there are sofas and comfortable chairs with a modern paint color scheme.

While waiting for a meeting or taking a break when volunteering enjoy the family center located in room 123.

Ms. Kraus and Ms. Knuppel are in the family room, with a pot of coffee ready, and would love to have parents stop in!




Volunteering at Lane

Why volunteer?

Liability
Please be sure to sign in at the office when you are volunteering. This protects you if you are injured while volunteering--but if you do not sign in, the district’s insurance will not cover you. Take a volunteer pin to identify you as a Lane volunteer!

Note: PPS now requires parents who chaperone field trips or excursions with middle school students to fill out a criminal background form. The background check costs $5. See the office for the form.

General Volunteer 
If you are willing to be called on an as-needed basis to volunteer.

Classroom help 
Assist a teacher with one-on-one help for students in the area of your choice: reading, language arts, social studies, math, or science. Time commitment TBD, based on your schedule.

Library
Reshelving books, filing, or  barcode data entry. Time commitment flexible.

Lunch room supervision
Spend your lunch hour helping staff supervise students in the cafeteria and/or outside, any time between 11:45 am and 1:15 pm. Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly time commitment, depending on your schedule. Great opportunity to see your child’s social world and get a  whole new view of middle school!

Dance Chaperone/Sales 
Chaperone at after school dances, or help sell concessions. Dates and times TBA.

Home Based Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering, but can’t come to school, we can still use your help.

Oregon Partnership -- a statewide non-profit organization promoting healthy kids and communities through drug and alcohol awareness, prevention programs, and a 24 hour crisis line for treatment referrals. We work with schools and community coalitions statewide, and our resource library is open to all to educate on the dangers of substance abuse.

Scholastic -- The on-line and bookfair book store has a resource for Expert Advice about your Middle School Age Child. The article archive has such titles as "Making the Transition", "Moving Ahead in Math and Science", "What to Expect in Middle School", "Homework Help--How Much Help?", "I Finished My Homework", "Stop Schoolwork Struggles", and "Study Strategies".

It's My Life - PBS Kids GO! -- PBS's new place for big kids! It gives information to teens about Friends, Family, School, Body, Emotions and Money. Under the School section are titles like "Middle School: Movin' On Up", and "Time Management: You Vs. The Clock" (which includes how to help your student make goals and a budget for their time), Under Emotions is an article entitled "Dealing With Anger". Under the Money section are articles on "Making Money", and "Managing Money". There are also some companion pages for Parents & Teachers.
