A Note From Brenda Fox
March 5, 2010
Dear Families:
Each month the students and staff of James
John focus on a theme to promote a positive school climate.
This month our theme will be safety. Yesterday at dismissal,
I thought a lot of about safety. Students were crossing in
the middle of the street. Cars were parked the wrong direction
and a few were parked in the crosswalk. I want to take an
opportunity to remind families that by following a few safety
rules, we can all support this month’s theme.
Dismissal time is an active time of day with many students
and their families leaving James John by foot, car, scooter,
bike, and bus. In order to better assure the safety of our
children, we all need to follow a few simple rules:
· Children who walk home from school
need to go directly to their after school destination.
· Drivers may not drive on the wrong
side of the road- even if it is only for a minute (like when
pulling up to the curb to load passengers.)
· Children and adults must use the
crosswalk. With all of the traffic it is hard to see pedestrians
when they cross in the middle of the street.
· Children must wear a helmet when
riding bikes or scooters.
· After school, only children accompanied
by a guardian or enrolled in SUN school may be on school grounds.
· Bikes and scooters need to be walked
when crossing in the crosswalk.
· Cars may not park or stop in the
crosswalks.
· Double parking (two cars parked side-by-side
on the street) causes traffic congestion and makes it difficult
to see children crossing the street.
Following these simple guidelines will help make our dismissal
time safer for our students.
Thanks,
Brenda
