The
Sunnyside Environmental School will explore the relationship between land
and culture through an integrated social studies cirriculum that embodies
the study of geography. Students are given multiple opportunities to discover
how the environment has impacted the culture and how the culture has impacted
the environment, Through storytelling, art history, scientific inquiry,
the media and community volunteers will come to know and celebrate the
diverse lands and peoples of earth. This exploration of culture will allow
students to inquire about issues of justice, peace, poverty and sustainable
environment. Children will have opportunities to use academic skills to
solve real world problems through developmentally appropriate service
learning.
