The Columbia Regional Program has several classrooms for deaf and hard of hearing students at Sunnyside. These classrooms have been at Sunnyside for 25 years and the staff of the Regional Program have become an important part of the community. Some students use oral english as their main communication mode. Other students use American Sign Language as their primary communication method. Some of these students are integrated into general classrooms for a major part of the school day. Others are mainstreamed for certain classes and activities, Sunnyside Environmental School celebrates Deaf culture and works to assure equal access for all students. The school is a richer place due to the presence of these students and the staff that serve them.
